Cornerstone OnDemand
Two decades of skills data, an ISO 42001 certificate and FedRAMP Moderate, wrapped around an AI that will not tell you which model it runs. A custom agent here means two to four quarters with Cornerstone's own engineers, which is a services engagement wearing a product label.

Billing is per named user, not per active user, so every licensed learner counts whether or not they log in. Multi-year commitments and displacement deals against SuccessFactors or Workday are where the discount sits, commonly 15–30% below list. Renewal uplift is reported at 4–7% before negotiation caps.

Strengths
The data asset is the product and it is hard to replicate: a taxonomy of more than 55,000 skills, over 1 billion workforce profiles, terabytes of daily labour market intelligence and two decades of learning signals, fused in the People Graph into an inference layer that infers what someone can actually do from the work they do rather than from a self-assessment. Governance is the other genuine strength, and it is unusually complete for this category: ISO 42001 on the AI management system, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701, SOC 2 Type II, FedRAMP Moderate, DoD IL4, 21 CFR Part 11 and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with a public trust centre and a stated commitment that customer data never trains the models. Delivery is properly multimodal, with VR, XR, AI avatars, podcast and voice formats and role-play practice, and Extend ships real open APIs, a Bulk API, a Reporting API and webhooks at csod.dev.
Honest dings
Cornerstone never names a model. 'Multiple LLMs working together' is the entire disclosure, there is no model list, no model choice and no change-notice commitment, which is a strange position for a vendor selling into FedRAMP and 21 CFR Part 11 environments. There is no eval surface for AI output and no published accuracy figure for the skills inference the whole platform rests on, so the central claim is unfalsifiable from outside. Anything beyond the shipped agent catalogue is a custom agent co-developed with Cornerstone engineers over two to four quarters, which is consulting priced as product. Protocol support runs through partners rather than a first-party MCP endpoint. And the operational complaints are consistent across G2, Gartner Peer Insights and eLearning Industry: reporting that is powerful but slow and overly complex, a dated and inconsistent admin interface, mobile that lacks parity with desktop, and support response times gated behind higher subscription tiers.
