LinkedIn — can an agent use it?
Beyond OAuth sign-in and 150 posts/day per member, every API is partner-gated behind multi-month review; messaging, connections and people search have no API at all, there is no official MCP server, and LinkedIn litigates scrapers out of existence.
Can an agent get correct information?
Machine-readable surface — 2/10
LinkedIn's robots.txt refuses general crawlers across the whole site — a robots-respecting fetcher was refused on linkedin.com/robots.txt, /legal/l/api-terms-of-use and /help/ on 2026-07-25 — and an authwall closes public browsing after roughly 3-5 profile views, so the JSON-LD that does ship in profile and company HTML is unreachable to a compliant agent. source
Information retrieval quality — 2.5/10
LinkedIn's own docs state "Standard rate limits are not published in documentation" and must be read per-app in the Developer Portal Analytics tab; Sales Navigator Advanced Plus, Recruiter and Marketing Developer Platform prices are all quote-only, and API-sourced profile data may be retained for only 24 hours (48 hours for social activity). source
Documentation for machines — 6.5/10
Microsoft Learn hosts date-versioned documentation (header `Linkedin-Version: 202607`) with a monthly changelog, a published per-version sunset table, migration guides and runnable cURL examples — undercut by unpublished rate limits and pages that still document permissions closed to new requests. source
Can an agent do the job?
Action coverage — 2.5/10
The only self-serve write is `w_member_social` posting to `/v2/ugcPosts` at 150 requests/member/day; comments, reactions, Page management and analytics require Community Management approval, and messaging, connection requests, people search, feed reading and job applications have no public API at all (`r_member_social` and `r_compliance`/`w_compliance` are closed permissions). source
Agent protocol support — 3/10
No official MCP server, WebMCP, Agent Skills or OAuth discovery endpoint exists; the most-used community option (stickerdaniel/linkedin-mcp-server, 1.9k stars, v4.13.0 released 2026-05-10) drives a logged-in browser session and states plainly that "LinkedIn's TOS prohibit automated tools". source
Access & auth friction — 2/10
Sign In with LinkedIn and Share on LinkedIn are self-serve but require an associated LinkedIn Page whose super-admin verifies the app; everything else is partner-gated (Community Management Standard tier demands a downloadable screencast of every use case, and a rejected app cannot reapply — you must build a new one), and programmatic refresh tokens are restricted to approved Marketing Developer Platform partners, so ordinary access tokens expire after 60 days with no unattended renewal. source
Agent payment capability — 1.5/10
LinkedIn takes money constantly (Sales Navigator Core $99/mo and Advanced $149/mo, Recruiter, Premium, ads) but a human must type the card into Campaign Manager and there is no support for ACP, AP2, MPP or x402 — the only money an agent can move is an ad budget on an account a person already funded. source
Cost & rate fairness — 3/10
Documented quotas exist only for the self-serve share path (150 requests/member/day, 100,000/app/day) and Community Management's Development tier (500 per app, 100 per member); LinkedIn publishes no API price list at all, with third parties estimating Marketing Developer Platform at roughly $699/month and Recruiter-backed APIs at ~$900/seat/month. source
Will it still work next quarter?
Permission & ToS stance — 1/10
The Marketing API restricted-use page bans lead generation, prospect identification, CRM enrichment, audience building, exporting member data and combining it with your own or third-party data, and enforcement is real: LinkedIn's January 2025 suit against Proxycurl ended in a permanent deletion injunction and the company shutting down in July 2025, with HeyReach's Page and founder profiles removed in March 2026. source
Reliability & continuity — 5.5/10
LinkedIn operates an official Atlassian Statuspage at linkedin-apistatus.com with RSS and Atom feeds and supports each monthly version for 12 months against a published sunset table, but migration is compulsory every year, breaking changes have shipped "to all versions" (the SPONSORED_INMAILS `creativeSelection` default flip in July 2026), and permissions keep closing rather than opening (`r_member_social`, `r_compliance`, Sales Navigator SNAP). source
